In Italy time stands still. This isn’t about ancient Rome, nor the Renaissance, nor the medieval villages in Tuscany’s enchanted landscapes. This is about Fascism and its symbols, still standing today after surviving the post war period, popular anger, left-wing terrorism, vandalism, Jewish communities, the institutions, 1968...how is this possible at all?
A photographic journey tells this story through Italy’s fascist emblems, imperial eagles, the Duce’s maxims; totems exalting the wars of expansion. All these symbols are variously restored, left untouched, almost erased by the passing years or venerated and cared for. They are almost never contextualized or historicized. They adorn the facades of schools, government buildings, churches and monuments, walls and fountains.

Italy seems to have not dealt with its past...
